WHAT IS MEDICATION MANAGEMENT?
More Than a Prescription.
A Clinical Plan.
Medication management is a structured, ongoing process, not a one-off prescription. A psychiatrist reviews your full history, clarifies your diagnosis, and designs a medication plan grounded in the evidence for your specific presentation. As treatment progresses, they monitor your response, adjust doses, and watch for interactions to maximise symptom improvements. At Vivant Mind, medication management is coordinated with your wider care. If you're also receiving psychotherapy, TMS, or Spravato, your clinical team works across all services to integrate your personalized plan.

WHO IT HELPS
Is Medication Management the Right Next Step?
Medication management may be appropriate if your symptoms are interfering with daily function or are a potential barrier to attending or committing to concurrent therapy (eg, psychotherapy). You may benefit from a structured, clinician-guided approach to pharmacotherapy. We treat a broad range of presentations, including, but not limited to:
-
Major depression, treatment-resistant depression, and persistent low mood
-
Generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and social anxiety
-
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
-
Bipolar disorder and mood instability
-
Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
-
Medication optimization or second opinions on existing psychiatric medications

Evidence-Based Prescribing. Built Around You.
We don't prescribe default medication without careful consideration. Each decision is informed by your history, prior treatment response, current goals, and latest research. Throughout this process, we embrace transparency with an emphasis on psychoeducation to ensure you understand your medication management plan comprehensively.

Psychiatric Evaluation
Your first appointment covers symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, prior medications and their outcomes, family history, and treatment goals. We may recommend baseline labs where clinically indicated. You leave with a clear picture of your diagnosis and a rationale for the proposed approach.
Personalized Medication Plan
We explain how the medication works, what to expect in terms of timeline and side effects, and how to manage any concerns that arise. You co-create the plan - you're not handed a decision.

Monitoring and adjustment
Follow-up appointments track response and tolerability, adjust doses, and identify possible drug interactions. Many patients notice early changes within two to four weeks; full benefits can take longer. We adjust to clinical reality, not a fixed schedule.

Coordinated Care When Needed
Where medication alone isn't sufficient, we can integrate psychotherapy, TMS, or Spravato into your plan. Your Vivant Mind team coordinates across services - case review is built into the model.
MEDICATION + OTHER TREATMENTS
Better Together. Combined Care.
Medication management can be used as a standalone treatment or as part of a broader plan, depending on your presentation and history. We'll map the evidence for your specific presentation and together, make an informed decision.
Psychotherapy - medication can reduce symptom load and lower the barriers that make engaging with therapy harder, improving outcomes for both.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) - non-drug neuromodulation targeting neural circuits implicated in depression or other symptomology. Used alongside medication to address biological factors at multiple levels.
Spravato (Esketamine) - rapid-acting in-clinic treatment for treatment-resistant depression. Can be coordinated with ongoing medication management for patients who haven't responded to standard antidepressants.

FAQ
Common Questions
Straight answers to the things people most often want to know before starting. If something isn’t covered here, call us or send a message, we’ll get back to you the same day.
How is medication management different from psychotherapy or TMS?
Medication intervenes pharmacologically - targeting neurotransmitter systems to reduce symptom severity. Psychotherapy works at the level of cognition, behaviour, and emotional processing. TMS uses focused magnetic stimulation to modulate neural circuits. They address different maintenance factors and are frequently most effective in combination.
Will I have to stay on medication indefinitely?
Not necessarily. Some presentations benefit from a defined treatment course; others benefit from longer-term maintenance. We review treatment plans regularly and taper when clinically appropriate and safe.
How soon will I notice a difference?
Many patients notice early changes within two to four weeks, but timelines vary by medication, individual, and symptom profile. We monitor response and adjust as needed - there's no fixed schedule.
Can medication be combined with TMS or Spravato?
Yes. We regularly combine medication with interventional and psychotherapeutic treatments to optimise outcomes. Coordination is built into our model, not arranged separately.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We verify benefits before your first appointment and handle prior authorisation where required. Out-of-network receipts are available on request.
