WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

More Than Talk. A Clinical Process.

Psychotherapy ("talk therapy") is a structured clinical process - and for many people, it's the first time they've had space to understand what's been driving how they feel properly. A trained clinician works with you to identify the patterns, avoidance behaviours, and unresolved conflicts sustaining your symptoms and intervenes directly.

Sessions are structured. Progress is tracked. At Vivant Mind, the approach is evidence-based, goal-directed, and coordinated with our wider psychiatric team.

WHO IT HELPS

Is Psychotherapy the Next Step?

Psychotherapy has demonstrated efficacy across a broad range of presentations. If yours isn't listed here, contact us - if we're not the right fit, we'll refer you to someone who is.

  • Depression and persistent low mood
  • Anxiety
  • OCD and related disorders
  • PTSD and trauma-related presentations
  • Bipolar depression
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Relationship difficulties
  • ADHD-related challenges

OUR APPROACH

The Right Framework For You.

We don't apply a single template. Our clinicians draw from a range of validated frameworks and select the approach - or combination - best matched to your symptom profile, history, and treatment goals. The right fit matters, and we take the time to get it right.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Targets the relationship between thoughts, behaviors, and emotional responses. Restructures maladaptive cognitions and disrupts avoidance cycles. Strong evidence base for depression, anxiety disorders, and OCD.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

A structured skills-training model targeting emotional dysregulation. Builds capacity in distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. Indicated for high emotional reactivity and self-destructive behavior patterns.

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

Examines how early relational experiences and unconscious processes shape current functioning. Particularly effective where recurring interpersonal difficulties or affect dysregulation are central to the presentation.

  • Integrative Approaches

Where the evidence supports it, we incorporate somatic awareness, mindfulness-based techniques, and behavioral activation alongside primary modalities.

We make the process clear from the start, no surprises, no jargon. Here's exactly what happens from your first consultation through to the end of your treatment course and beyond.

Evaluation & Eligibility

Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation - symptom history, background, and treatment goals. We determine the most effective approach based on your presentation and, where relevant, whether a combined treatment plan is indicated. Many people leave their first appointment with a clearer picture of what's been going on than they've had in years.

Weekly or biweekly

Your Sessions & Schedule

Typically 50–60 minutes, weekly or biweekly. Your clinician tracks outcomes systematically and adjusts the intervention as your presentation evolves.

Monitoring & After-Visit Plan

If you're receiving TMS, Spravato, or medication management alongside therapy, your Vivant Mind clinical team coordinates across all services. Case review is built into the model - not an afterthought.

THERAPY + OTHER TREATMENTS

Better Together. Combined Care.

Therapy can be used as a standalone intervention or in combination with biological treatments, depending on the severity and nature of your presentation:

Spravato

Rapid-acting, opens a window for therapy traction.

FAQ

Common Questions

Straight answers to the things people most often want to know before starting. If something isn’t covered here, call us or send a message, we’ll get back to you the same day.

  • How is different from medication or TMS?

Psychotherapy works at the level of cognition, behavior, and emotional processing - identifying and modifying the psychological mechanisms maintaining your symptoms. Medication and TMS intervene biologically, targeting neurotransmitter systems and neural circuits. They can address different maintenance factors and are frequently most effective in combination.

  • How long are sessions, and how often?

Typically 50 - 60 minutes, weekly or biweekly - adjusted based on your presentation and progress.

  • How long until I notice changes?

It depends on the presentation, modality, and how consistently sessions occur. Most people notice meaningful shifts within the first few months as avoidance patterns decrease and new responses are practiced between sessions. Progress isn't always linear, but it's trackable - and we track it.

  • Do I need to choose therapy or TMS/Spravato?

Not necessarily. Combined treatment is often more effective than either in isolation. We'll review the evidence for your specific presentation and recommend the approach most likely to produce durable outcomes.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We verify benefits before your first appointment and handle prior authorisation where required. Out-of-network receipts are available on request.
